Anyone know WTF an Accent Blue is?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Looks like it has scads of hail damage but otherwise in decent shape. I can’t get anything yet, but I wanted to check it out because I doubt there’s going to be huge demand for this car and it might still be around in a week or so when my gap coverage payment comes in.

Why am I looking at this? I actually do like this generation of Accent in hatch form with the manual. I almost bought one a couple years before I bought the Ranger. Also, I believe my CU will finance it. “But f hrblig, why would you finance this?” Because if I finance it thru the CU I get $1000 from the gap coverage replacement clause, w hich means I’d only be paying for a little more than half the asking price. I’d have this thing paid off in six mo nths tops. All this car has to do is last me maybe 10k miles. At my current driving level, that’s probably over two years of use.

Here’s hoping it doesn’t stink or have a lot of problems. I also kinda hope it has A/C, you can’t really tell from the pics.

It’s not painted blue, so my first guess would be wrong.

It’s not diesel, is it?

They’ve never sold a diesel here as far as I know. I thought maybe it meant Bluetooth, but it has an aftermarket stereo.

I looked at the Wiki page for it and apparently it was the loss leader model, only available as a hatch and the only option was A/C for an extra $1000.

*googlefu intensifies*

a/c was the only avaible option on those at a $1000 cost

And really, what else do you need? Hell, we only really need it for 3 months.

I think I might have to replace that stereo if I get it, though. It looks like the same one I had put in one of my fleet vehicles when its radio failed. It was cheap but it was the most maddening stereo to use. All of the controls were utterly stupid.

From the wiki

“ For the 2010 model year a “Blue” trim level has been introduced for the Accent with a base price of only US$ 9,970. [33] The Accent Blue is only available as a 3-door hatchback with a manual transmission, the sole option being air-conditioning which adds $1,000 to the price.”

B asic but that’s pretty much the point.

make sure you get a nice cheap stereo with easy controls

if memory serves the speakers that car comes with arent worth a nice stereo (and im guessing upgrading the whole thing aint the plan)

Yeah, Hyundai/Kia speakers are godawful. The ones in my Optima were painfully bad. I doubt I’ll spend more than $100-200 for a stereo and/or speakers though.

Yeah, I think they were competing with that barebones Versa that was $9995 new and did not even have a radio.

According to Hyundai’s Turkish website, google translated:

“ PERFORMANCE: Accent Blue is fuel-saving and responsive to the environment as well as lucentane. It’s an engineering wonder everyone will like.”

So, there you have it.

I believe Accent Blues were a base trim with no/or basic options.

I have a 2009 Accent hatch exactly like this with the 5-spd. Basic, but it’s been a VERY reliable car and is surprisingly peppy with the 5-spd (not so much with the auto....the auto saps a lot of the pep!) :)

Kinja'd!!!

Ask me anything you need to know! :)

EDIT - Looked it up - Blues were the base trim, the only option on that trim was A/C so it MAY have it, but without a pic of the switch to the left of the re-circ switch on the dash above the climate control knobs, or a pic of the engine bay, we can’t really tell.

Layal doesn’t list the car as having A/C on their website:

I seriously considered buying one of these new. The one I drove was Kermit green, and had AC. Hopefully it works out.

Thanks! Any problems with yours? How many miles so far?

110 hp isn’t bad for these. The one I test drove a few years back was pretty quick.

This would be my second basic Accent hatch.  I previously had a 2001 with the 1.5 and the 5-speed. It did have a/c. It was definitely before Hyundai had the hang of building cars, but it drove ok if a bit slow.

I looked at the K ermit green one and the powder blue, if I remember right. And a yellow.

I don’t get people sometimes.

They put a floor protector in the driver’s footwell, but fail to clean the seats or remove the tacky aftermarket steering wheel cover.

This gen of Accent was sortof when they started getting their mojo - the interior is definitely hard plastic everywhere, but it’s not a bad place to be and generally seems fairly well put-together.

No major issues with mine so far. I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada so I bought it with 54,000kms on it and it currently has 143,000kms, so it has about 89,000 miles on it...? The biggest repairs I’ve really had to do were a front CV joint and coil packs (it’s coil on plug).

I live in Nova Scotia where the roads are heavily salted and I get it undercoated with that waxy undercoating stuff every November or so and I’ve yet to see any rust bubbles on body anywhere. I DID just get a little surface rust fixed underneath which was just in front of the rear wheel wells. It’s because that is where the front wheels kick up rocks and grit into and it effectively sandblasts it (happens on most cars), but it was literally just surface rust.

Uh...other than that? The usual maintenance stuff - oil filters, air filters, spark plugs, brake pads/shoes (they have rear drum brakes)....all of which is easy to do yourself. Parts are very cheap and easy to get. The engines/transmissions were the exactly the same as the Kia Rio of the same time period (as were a lot of the suspension components, I believe, but don’t quote me on that), which means parts are really easy to find . Not sure how the original owner drove my particular car , but it’s still on the original clutch as far as I know. The clutch pedal is light and forgiving - gears are a slightly longer throw, but have a pleasant clunk/chunk when engaged. Power starts to come on most noticeably around 3000 -3500rpm and redline is around 6K.

Roads aren’t great here, very potholed, so the suspension is getting pretty worn on mine (shocks/struts) which I should get replaced - that’s moreso a lot from the bad roads rather than quality though. The shocks/struts still work, and aren’t leaking, but are definitely not working as well as they used to. I’ve been told they can eat tires a bit when the suspension starts to get really worn as large bumps/potholes can knock the alignment out easily.

Here’s all the info I have if it helps! Excuse my typed notes on various mod ideas, etc.

Thanks for al l the info! I’m thinking that even if I don’t get this one, I’m probably going to get an Accent hatch/Kia Rio of this vintage with a manual.

I’ve gotten used to dealers not posting all the equipment a car has. I’m expecting to not have A/C, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it does.  Half the dealers can’t even be bothered to list the correct transmission or engine.

Yeah, dealers are the same here...Kia Rio manuals / shouldn’t be hard to find either FYI and they are the same platform as the Accent with different fascia, really....some of the interior parts are even interchangeable.

They are cheap, reliable effective transport...not amazi ng, but not bad. :)
